Update (7/28/2024): We have received word from John’s family that a memorial service for him will be held on August 12, 2024, at Watershed Church, 9315 Broadway, San Antonio, Texas 78217, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Our beloved John Michael Ramirez passed away unexpectedly on July 10, 2024. All of us who knew him and worked with him are in shock and are left with a mighty big hole in our hearts. During the last couple of months John was addressing some medical challenges. The combination of medical expenses and final arrangements can be significant.

We are raising funds to help John’s family. In conjunction with Spacetone Music (where John’s son Dausin works), we have established a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to help John’s family:

Generous in sharing his knowledge, John became a mentor and friend for many. He worked with diligence, persistence, care, and earnest love, and the stories friends and customers share show that to be the way he lived his life. His genuine kindness and care for the well-being of others are traits that stand most strongly in my memory.

Not a day goes by at GuitarTex without someone asking for or telling a story about John — maybe a first guitar, maybe a memory of a band or the Teen Canteen, maybe something from his service with his church, maybe something about cycling or about his marathons and triathlons. He made and lived a full and robust life.

Our lives are diminished by his passing. A man of faith, we also believe that he would want us to lift one another, to celebrate the good we know of his life, and to do the things that bring more joy and good into the world.

We are easy to reach from both the San Antonio International Airport and from Downtown.

From Downtown
We are at 4330 McCullough, and McCullough goes all the way downtown. In the old days, it was one of the few routes out of down town that didn’t cross railroad tracks. (A big deal when you have a wagon – I’ve heard. Never experienced it.) The maps and driving directions will help alot. Easy to know when you’re getting close because we’re just past the traffic circle/fountain.
